Chef Justin Cherry will be creating an extraordinary formal colonial dinner showcasing South Carolina’s traditional fare. The meal will be completely prepared using 18th century methods, bakes and roasted in Historic Camden’s own wood-fired oven and open-hearth spit.
Menu features Smoked Trout with Egg Sauce, Roasted Chicken, Sausages, Stewed peas with lemon and parsley, Dressed Mushrooms, Buttered Carolina Rice, Carolina Rice Bread with Salt Pork and Butter, Double Gloucester Cheese, and Queens cake.
About the Chef: Chef Justin Cherry is Resident Chef and Baker at Historic Camden and George Washington’s Mount Vernon. He is the Owner/Baker of Half Crown Bake House and an independent researcher of 18th-century foodways. In 2018-2019, he was a fellow at Fred W. Smith National Library for the study of George Washington and in 2024, was a fellow at the Society of the Cincinnati/American Revolution Institute.
