McCormick County

You’re invited to be a part of history. Join other guests and officials at the December 20th formal unveiling ceremonies of the highly anticipated “Gateway” Historical Site Map Signs presented by your McCormick County 250 Committee in association with the South Carolina & America 250 Project and in concert with the McCormick County Historical Commission & Willington On The Way.

The two large, beautifully detailed, permanent outdoor maps are a big part of the advance activities to recognize and celebrate the 250th Anniversary of America’s Independence and McCormick County’s significant role during that fight for freedom.

The maps, in tandem with the mc250.org website, one at the McCormick Dorn Mill Complex, 11 a.m. ceremony, the other at the Willington Bookshop, Curiosity Shop & History Center Complex, 1 p.m. ceremony, are the starting points for your Revolutionary War related tour, providing information, graphic images, GPS coordinates, QR Codes and more for the 15 McCormick County sites and Gateway locations of our fellow Old Ninety-Six District counties; Abbeville, Greenwood and Edgefield. On the other side of the respective frames will be new signs displaying the history of the Dorn Mill Complex and Town of Willington.

Funding for the MC250 Gateway Map Signs was via a SC250 Grant. The Dorn Mill Complex History sign was funded by SC Humanities. Funds for the Willington History sign came from Willington On The Way. Shafer Huguley Branding Communications assisted with all of the design work.

Light refreshments will be served at the Dorn Mill kickoff ceremony – 206 N. Main St. and lunch at the Willington unveiling – 1801 Morrah Bridge Rd.
