In 1824, the United States was in the throes of a very contentious national Presidential election. President James Monroe invited the last living American Revolutionary War General, the Marquis de Lafayette, for a short tour of popular cities as a way to celebrate the nation’s 50th anniversary and reignite its patriotism. On March 8th, 1825, the Marquis arrived in Camden with all the pomp and ceremony due to this famous hero of the Revolution. Throughout the weekend, we will have several appearances and events to take visitors back to March of 1825.
