Spartanburg County
Cedar Springs was the muster ground for the Spartan Regiment of Militia under Colonel John Thomas, Sr. Both the colonel and his wife, Jane Black Thomas, were Revolutionary War heroes. During the war, Cedar Springs became a target for British Major Patrick Ferguson and his Tory forces. Reenactors will show and tell the story. There will be food vendors and Revolutionary War items for sale. Come find out how Spartanburg got its name and learn about the regiment that played a significant role in battles all across South Carolina. Free your inner Spartan!
