*Part of “A Glorious Cause: South Carolina and the American Revolution: A Public History Initiative by the Georgetown County Library,” the Carvers Bay Library welcomes Pelor Jemonia Richards to describe the roots and resilience of Gullah Geechee people living in the South Carolina Lowcountry during the colonial era. Richards is a Gullah storyteller and historian who owns and operates Gullah Goodz & Gifts. She is a member of Georgetown 250 and helped organize the Sweet Potato Festival in November 2025 in partnership with South Carolina 250 and the Slave Dwelling Project.
The project is made possible by a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the South Carolina State Library (SCSL).
