Horry County, named for Brigadier General Peter Horry, contributed to the Revolution through Francis Marion’s militia activity and Loyalist resistance. Marion recruited and maneuvered across the region, including a skirmish at Bear Bluff. In 1776, Continental troops under Colonel Francis Nash camped locally, underscoring the county’s strategic role.
