Lexington County, named in honor of the Battle of Lexington in Massachusetts, holds a notable Revolutionary War legacy. Then part of the Saxe Gotha township, the area saw several skirmishes, most prominently the Battle of Tarrar Springs on November 16, 1781, fought just east of present-day Lexington. The nearby Congaree River also shaped local campaigns, including Rawdon’s Skirmish and the British retreat from Fort Granby. Visit a replica Fort Granby at the Cayce Historical Museum.
