Marion County was central to the Revolution through the heroic campaigns of General Francis Marion, the “Swamp Fox,” who used its swamps and forests for guerrilla campaigns against British and Loyalists. Though not yet a county at the time, the area saw key Patriot victories at Blue Savannah and Bowling Green, cementing its wartime significance.
