Pickens County

Website: https://pickenscountyhistoricalsociety.com/

Pickens County’s Revolutionary heritage blends Cherokee history, colonial defenses, and Patriot leadership. The Cherokee Nation long inhabited the region, where Fort Prince George, built in the 1750s on the Keowee River, served as a strategic British outpost and gave rise to local place names. After the Revolution, Brigadier General Andrew Pickens, a Patriot leader, established Hopewell Plantation in present-day Clemson. His legacy, along with the county named in his honor, connects Pickens County to America’s struggle for independence.
