Union County

Website: https://www.unioncountymuseum.com/

Union County was deeply divided during the Revolutionary War, with Patriots and Loyalists waging a bitter civil conflict while Quakers sought neutrality. At least five engagements took place within its boundaries, the most significant being the Battle of Blackstock’s Farm on November 20, 1780, where General Thomas Sumter’s militia defeated Banastre Tarleton. Local leader Colonel Thomas Brandon emerged as a key Patriot figure, later donating land for the county’s courthouse and jail after its creation in 1785.
