A public taping of a History Panel discussion to celebrate the contributions of patriot hero, militia leader and martyr, Captain Henry Felder, funded by an Educational Grant from the SC250 Commission. Henry Felder wrote an “Address and Declaration of Separation from the English King,” delivering it to William Henry Drayton as foreman of the Grand Jury in Orangeburg on May 20th, 1776, roughly seven weeks before the “Declaration of Independence” was delivered by Thomas Jefferson. Henry Felder was a member of the First and Second Provincial Congresses, serving on committees, tasked with making gunpowder and raising funds and gather artillery and prevent supplies from reaching the British. He led a unit of militia with his seven sons under the general supervision of General Thomas Sumter. His fight for liberty cost him his life. The event includes screening of the trailer from the multiple award-winning docudrama, “All For Liberty” and several clips from the film to illuminate Henry Felder’s motives and fight for liberty in America. The panelists are as follows; Alexia Jones Helsley (History Department, USC Aiken), John Brian Eleazer (Author, “The South Carolina Militia in the Revolutionary War, Captain Henry Felder & the Backcountry Defense.”), Clarence Felder, (Executive Producer/writer, star and a sixth great-grandson of Captain Felder) and will be moderated by Director/writer/producer/co-star, Chris Weatherhead-Felder, who portrays Henry Felder’s wife. The event will be taped by cinematographer, Trevor D. Erickson. Panel Discussion to be followed by a Question & Answer period with attendees and short reception.
