Family Day at the Museum, Free and open to the public!
Located in the courtyard of the historic Beaufort Arsenal, 713 Craven Street. Experience the 18th century first hand through hands-on demonstrations, period reenactors, live cannon fire, and the premier showing of the new state of the art immersive theater featuring Beaufort on the Brink of Revolution.
Through its educational programs, Southern Campaign 1780 delivers hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences for students and the general public. Liberty Live blends history, science, archaeology, and the humanities through interactive demonstrations, storytelling, battlefield simulations, and “living” encounters with the past—transforming spectators into active learners and making 18th-century history accessible, memorable, and fun for all ages.
The museum’s immersive theater encourages its audience to more fully understand the depth and consequences of decisions made through the unique perspectives found in the Beaufort District (Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton counties today) on the eve of the American Revolution. Everyone was drawn in impacting them regardless of race, sex, or station in life. These decisions were not to be taken lightly and could even mean financial ruination for some as the reality of revolution became clear. They must be united!
Bring family, friends, neighbors, your curiosity, and perhaps ear protection for the artillery enthusiasts. Yes, we will be shooting the cannon.
