Reverend William Martin immigrated from Ulster to the South Carolina Backcountry in 1772 and found religious freedom and economic opportunity for himself and his congregation. He lost it all eight years later for committing a seditious act and taking a stand against British authorities.
This 20-minute program brings to life Martin’s story through a carefully scripted narrative created to inform and educate the public about his experiences during the American Revolution. The program was made possible through a Local Activity Grant (24FYC5-5460) awarded by the South Carolina Sestercentennial Commission (SC250) to the Lancaster County 250 Committee to educate the general public about the role of religion in the Backcountry during the Revolution.
