A 3,400-acre wildlife sanctuary owned by the National Audubon Society, the site boasts a diversity of wildlife and a wealth of history. Before the Revolutionary War, Silver Bluff was a trading post for Native Americans, but it became a British fort during the war. The fort was captured by the Patriots in 1781, and the supplies that were stockpiled there fueled a successful siege of Augusta, which fell to the Patriots two weeks later.
