Lines of Liberty: Sketching the Revolution with Local Artist Jennifer York

Join local artist Jennifer York for an introduction to sketching workshop at the Charleston Museum. Using items from the Museum’s collection as inspiration, York will teach sketching from direct observation in both pencil and pen, enlivened by colored mediums. Participants will walk away from this workshop with multiple smaller practice sketches and one larger final sketch. This workshop is open to beginners and participants of all skill levels, age 13 and up. All supplies and equipment provided.
Participants will take inspiration from the Museum’s newest exhibition, Ringleaders of Rebellion: Charleston in Revolt, 1775 – 1783. This special exhibition commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of our nation and features historic Revolutionary War and 18th-century Lowcountry artifacts, including a cartridge box of the Royal Artillery carried at the Battles of Lexington and Concord, Revolution-era muskets, and 18th century garments, accessories, and gowns.
On special exhibit will be the robe à la francaise worn by Eliza Lucas Pinckney from the Museum’s historic textiles collection. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to view this exquisite and delicate gown before its last day on exhibit on July 26th!
