Orangeburg County
Orangeburg County was a contested zone during the Revolutionary War, with Patriots and Loyalists clashing across the region. The most notable event was the Surrender of Orangeburg in May 1781, when General Thomas Sumter, supported by a cannon from Nathanael Greene, forced a British garrison to surrender after a brief siege.
