Aiken County
Website: http://www.sc250aikencounty.com/
During the Revolutionary War, the area that is now Aiken County occupied a strategic position along the Savannah River, serving as both a boundary and a vital trade route. In May 1781, Patriot forces captured the British-held post at Fort Galphin, securing much-needed supplies that contributed directly to the successful campaign for Augusta. Today, the site is preserved within Audubon’s Silver Bluff Sanctuary, while the Aiken County Historical Museum offers exhibits that further illuminate the region’s rich Revolutionary War heritage.
