Dorchester County

Website: https://www.dorchestercountysc.gov/our-county/do

Present-day Dorchester County includes Colonial Dorchester, site of multiple skirmishes during the war, and Middleton Place, home to Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Fighting in 1781 and 1782 took place in the upper part of the County Four Holes Swamp, and a British cannon found in the nearby swamp is placed there. The Koger House c.1780 still stands not too far away from where Ferguson’s Mill, a large 18th century lumber mill, once stood on the Edisto River where General Greene’s Continental soldiers crossed in 1782.
