Divided Loyalties: A Walk Through the Revolutionary War at Palmetto Bluff

April 13 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

On April 13th, the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy and Palmetto Bluff Archaeology will partner with South Carolina 250 (SC250) to mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and the 245th anniversary of the death of Richard “Tory Dick” Pendarvis with a special walking tour honoring the residents of May River Neck (current-day Palmetto Bluff), often-overlooked role in the war. Led by archaeologist Katie Epps, the 1.8-mile tour will guide attendees through Palmetto Bluff’s historic cemeteries while exploring the region’s deep—and sometimes violent—ties to America’s fight for independence.
“Palmetto Bluff has stories to tell, says Epps. “This event brings to light the personal conflicts that shaped the Revolutionary War in the Lowcountry.”
To find out about Palmetto Bluff’s surprising past and those who lived there during the Revolutionary War, please join Katie Epps on April 13, 2026. This special event costs $40 per person, and proceeds will be used for cemetery restoration work in Palmetto Bluff cemeteries. Space is limited. To register, email info@pbconservancy.org. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required. Light refreshments will be served.
