Jennifaye Singleton, Sweetgrass Weaver, “Traditional Gullah Artforms of the Revolutionary Period” (“A Glorious Cause” series)

May 21 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

*Part of “A Glorious Cause: South Carolina and the American Revolution: A Public History Initiative by the Georgetown County Library,” sweetgrass weaver and storyteller Jennifaye Singleton, who has been practicing the ancient art of Gullah Geechee basket-weaving since 1990, views sweetgrass weaving not only as a distinct cultural artifact but also as a divine gift passed down through generations. Participants will learn about the long, rich history of sweetgrass weaving as a means of deep cultural bonding and communal expression for the Gullah Geechee people.

The project is made possible by a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the South Carolina State Library (SCSL).

Free & open to all.
