In 1780, Fair Lawn Plantation (also known as Fair Lawn Barony or Colleton Mansion) was repurposed into a hospital and supply storeroom. The British built Fort Fair Lawn on the edge of the property along the Cooper River. Part of a wall and moat are all that remains of the fort. The Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust holds a conservation easement on the plantation and plans to expand the site to adjoin Old Santee Canal State Park. You can park near the Berkeley County Museum to see visit the site.
