This is one of 55 replicas of the Liberty Bell given to the United States by France. The tone and dimensions of the bell are identical to the original in Philadelphia, though on this one the crack is only painted.
This replica was presented to the people of South Carolina in 1950 by the Secretary of the Treasury, John W. Snyder as part of a United States Savings Bond drive. During the U.S. bicentennial observance in 1976 the bell was rung.
