Galleys would form a large part of the navies developed by the colonies, but South Carolina was slow to adopt plans to build them due, in part, to a political argument between congressional delegates Christopher Gadsden and Edward Rutledge. Even so, the Revolution at sea has received far less attention than the land wars, and quite a few battles have been forgotten. In Disaster on the Savannah River, Jim Piecuch reminds us of just such a battle not long after the British occupation of Savannah.
