Saluda County

Saluda County, once part of the Ninety Six District, contributed to the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution. In November 1780, Patriot forces under Majors Samuel Hammond and James McCall fought Loyalist militia at Rutledge Ford on the Saluda River, a sharp skirmish that forced the Loyalists to retreat. Though the county saw no major battles, its Revolutionary heritage endures through landmarks like the Bonham House (c.1780), home to the family of Alamo hero James Butler Bonham.
