Eliza – An American Opera

ELIZA: A Chamber Opera brings to life the courage, enterprise, and resilience of free, enslaved, and freed African and African-descended market women in relationship with Jewish Femme Soles in Revolutionary-era Charleston, South Carolina.

Commissioned by the Jonathan Green Maritime Cultural Center at the University of South Carolina Beaufort and sponsored in part by the SC250 Commission, the opera explores women’s roles in commerce, community, and the pursuit of freedom.
