SUMMARY:SC250 Palmetto Display
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the South Carolina State Library partnered with the South Carolina Relic Room and Military Museum for Revolutionary War Day\, which highlights South Carolina’s rich Revolutionary War history and the many battles fought here\, including Ninety Six\, Sullivan’s Island\, Camden\, Kings Mountain\, and Cowpens. \nThe fighting produced heroes whose names we still recall\, such as the “Fighting Gamecock”\, Thomas Sumter\, and the “Swamp Fox”\, Francis Marion. Visit our new SC250 display\, courtesy of the South Carolina Relic Room and Military Museum\, which highlights how the Sabal palmetto\, South Carolina’s state tree\, became a significant symbol during the Battle of Fort Sullivan. The exhibit will remain on display through the end of this year.

SUMMARY:American Revolution Exhibit at Upcountry History Museum Takes You from Front Lines to Home Fronts
DESCRIPTION:From 1775-1783\, Patriots and Loyalists engaged in ongoing skirmishes and all-out battles as the American Revolution spread throughout the 13 Colonies until the tide of war turned in favor of the Patriots during the 1778-1781 Southern Campaign. And while these battles draw most of the attention\, daily life among citizens and non-combatants continued on the home front. \n“Upcountry Road to Freedom: Upstate South Carolina During the American Revolution\,” now open at the Upcountry History Museum – Greenville County\, focuses on the people\, places\, and events of the Southern Campaign’s war years while offering a look at the culture and life in the Backcountry during this period. \nThis exhibition features original artifacts and archival materials that highlight how life was for many families and how during the war years\, they persevered through hard work\, determination and belief in the fight for independence. \nIn addition\, the exhibition showcases items and accessories from soldiers and civilians which illustrate key phases of the war that include the path to independence\, colonists to revolutionaries\, the war’s darkest hours\, and the new nation’s formation. Perspectives from Upcountry South Carolina women\, African Americans (free and enslaved)\, indigenous peoples\, and soldiers will further illustrate what it meant to gain independence and become the United States of America. \nThis exhibition\, organized by the Upcountry History Museum in partnership with Clemson University and private collectors\, will be on display through September 5\, 2027. \nThe Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday\, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Sunday\, 1:00-5:00 p.m.; closed Monday.
