Georgetown County, SC, was a vital Revolutionary War port and home to Francis Marion, the “Swamp Fox,” whose guerrilla tactics harassed British forces. The British occupied Georgetown from 1780–1781, while Thomas Lynch Jr., a native son, signed the Declaration of Independence. Lafayette also landed nearby, underscoring the county’s importance.
