SUMMARY:American Revolution Exhibit at Upcountry History Museum Takes You from Front Lines to Home Fronts
DESCRIPTION:From 1775-1783\, Patriots and Loyalists engaged in ongoing skirmishes and all-out battles as the American Revolution spread throughout the 13 Colonies until the tide of war turned in favor of the Patriots during the 1778-1781 Southern Campaign. And while these battles draw most of the attention\, daily life among citizens and non-combatants continued on the home front. \n“Upcountry Road to Freedom: Upstate South Carolina During the American Revolution\,” now open at the Upcountry History Museum – Greenville County\, focuses on the people\, places\, and events of the Southern Campaign’s war years while offering a look at the culture and life in the Backcountry during this period. \nThis exhibition features original artifacts and archival materials that highlight how life was for many families and how during the war years\, they persevered through hard work\, determination and belief in the fight for independence. \nIn addition\, the exhibition showcases items and accessories from soldiers and civilians which illustrate key phases of the war that include the path to independence\, colonists to revolutionaries\, the war’s darkest hours\, and the new nation’s formation. Perspectives from Upcountry South Carolina women\, African Americans (free and enslaved)\, indigenous peoples\, and soldiers will further illustrate what it meant to gain independence and become the United States of America. \nThis exhibition\, organized by the Upcountry History Museum in partnership with Clemson University and private collectors\, will be on display through September 5\, 2027. \nThe Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday\, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Sunday\, 1:00-5:00 p.m.; closed Monday.

SUMMARY:Revolutionary South Carolina: A Photographic Journey by Marie and Eddie Goff
DESCRIPTION:The State Library commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War through a photography exhibit titled “Revolutionary South Carolina: A Photographic Journey by Marie and Eddie Goff”. The exhibit is a collection of photographs highlighting historic places that shaped South Carolina during the American Revolutionary War. Seen through the lens of Marie and Eddie Goff\, their photographs bring South Carolina’s historic grounds to life\, capturing both the quiet beauty and lasting significance of the places where history unfolded. \nRetired Brigadier General and Colonel\, respectively\, the Goffs have dedicated their post-military years to exploration and storytelling through photography. Their work reflects not only a passion for travel but also a profound respect for the legacy of those who shaped the nation. Each image offers a visual bridge between past and present\, with fields once marked by conflict now standing in peaceful reflection and preserved landmarks bearing witness to the resilience and sacrifice of a young country. \nThis collection highlights South Carolina’s central role in the Revolutionary War\, inviting viewers to engage with history in a deeply personal and visually immersive way. These sites are not just locations\, but living reminders of courage\, perseverance\, and the enduring spirit of freedom. \n“Revolutionary South Carolina: A Photographic Journey by Marie and Eddie Goff” will remain on display at the State Library through June 30.

SUMMARY:Francis Goes To Disney Land- Walt Disney's Swamp Fox Series
DESCRIPTION:In 1959 Walt Disney debuted an eight part series about the life of Francis Marion. Credited as being based on Dr. Robert Bass’ (then a professor at Furman University) biography “The Swamp Fox\,” it starred Leslie Nielsen in the title role. For many viewers this was their first introduction to Marion. \nHowever getting “The Swamp Fox” on television was almost as hard as it was to catch the partisan leader. Tom Elmore tells is the story behind the scenes of the making of the show which involves Davy Crockett\, The House Un-American Actives Committee and the Canadian Government. Elmore will show some rare images that have never been published to tell this almost forgotten part of Disney history.
